Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Apache Smooth Proxy Problem

First off, i'd like to say that this is an excellent tutorial and i'm learning a lot. However i've run into a few "issues" which might be due to the fact that i'm using maya 6. I'd appreciate it a lot if you could help me out.

I'd just like to know if maya 6 produces "extra faces" when you're using the "extrude face tool" as there were many times when an extrude face was to be performed, the video tutorial showed that after those certain faces were deleted it just got deleted nice and easy, however when i try and do it, i end up with many more faces to delete and many more vertices to merge together.

Here's an example. (sorry the image didn't load i'm not sure why, please let me know what i need to do to get it to load)

The second problem that i have was towards the end of the second part when he scotty told us to use "smooth proxy" and set the divisions up to "2". I did that and when i compared my smoothed model with his it looked like the pic above. If there's something i need to do cause its maya 6 or i've made a mistake somewhere please tell me, i really want get on with this tutorial.
Please help...thanks.

Thanks for that.

Just a question, it there ever a time when you would want to "not" keep the faces together? If not then why isn't that the default setting instead of you having to go and switch it on.
