Correct method?

Hi guys, I'm trying to make a xmas short and have modelled the following santa:

i'm about to start rigging, however i'm gonna be doing a little facial animation using blendshapes and i only want the blendshapes to affect the models head.

The model is just one piece of geometry, so how do you use blendshapes for just facial expressions without it affecting the position of the body/arms/legs etc. ?

you could seperate the head and only make the blends with the head. Or you could use the whole body for a blend shape and only tweak the head verts, but that way would use up alot of memory if you have many blend shapes.
