I'm currently rendering a series of shots involving aircraft flying above clouds. The Clouds have been created in VUE and imported into Maya. The issue is, rendering using production quality is currently taking ~2 hours per frame. Almost no quality is lost rendering the clouds in draft, however there is a noticeable drop in the plane quality. I'm looking for a way to render the clouds in one lower quality pass, and the plane in a separate, higher quality pass and then composite them. I've searched around online with no real luck and experimented with the 'render layers' section but to no avail. Is there a simple way to do this?
