I chose some basic materials and tweaked them. Still needs some tweaking.

only the foam and black casing if you ask me!

but it's as you said yourself, bump mapping and noise.

But anyways, This is great.

Could be cool, if you did a display with some tilted chips and cards with the open suitcase in the background user added image

Dunno if its the angle or lighting, but the dealer chip looks like its "floating" a bit, think its the left side edge

Hmm... don't looks like it's floating for me... anyway it's definitely resting on the deck, so it's a mirage =)

Here's another render with some chips added.

they look pretty good! is there a bevel on the edge? i can't really tell, but it looks to be missing that little specular highlight as if it were *shrug*

No bevel... they are very sharp and the material almost clay-like so I don't think it would make a difference unless maybe a real close-up.

Looks great,

It might be me but the chips looks like thre not on the floor correctley, again like there floating, like a lot of car renders if you get what im on about, maybe its the floor colour????

If your going for realism then you need a bevel, nothings perfectley razer sharp (unless its a razor)

Can't say I see any problems with floating, but as you say, maybe it'll be better with another floor...

And of course nothing is razor sharp in real life, but there is a degree where you wont see the bevel depending on how sharp the bevel is and how far away the eye are. I'll try bevel some chips and see if there's a difference later...

Here's the latest render for today, now I'm off to bed.

nice work. . .i really would not be able to tell the difference from a real set to this one if it were not for the foam. this would definitey be something to add to a portfolio for an advertising position. who needs photographers when you have maya and maxwell!

i don't see a floating problem either. i am not certain a bevel will make a difference, in fact it may create more of a floating issue because it will really make the edge appear seperated or floating, from anything a chip is supposed to be resting on.

can't wait to see more. you should model a nice felt table, a crystal ashtray, some scotch glasses and your case opened up with some chips and cards all over the table.

Here's another render, more close-up. I think a bevel would show here. Some artifacts on the chrome too. Next is to model the dice (a must for poker...haha).
