texturing a screw is fine ..but even if the object is seen from a distance (not too far I hope ),with that little bevel or roundness the lighting would reflect differently and it will seem a lot more realistic.

Is the controller a combination of nurbs and polys or is it subdivision?

jsprogg,

I guess this is where experience comes in. I ended up rounding off the corners yesterday, just in case. Thanks for the advice man. I started trying to learn Maya a the beginning of this year, so I still have a lot to learn.

THX1138,
I'm much more comfortable with Polys, so much of the controller is poly. The surfaces your referring to are Nurbs. I think I should have used more Nurb Surfaces then I have.

Not too sure how efficient my modelling on the controller has been, but I am learning. Man the handle took me more than an hour to make  I could figure out how to extrude to a path curve.

I will post some more Progress Pics today.

Cheers
Paul

Sweet. Do you use a mix of polygons and Sub-Ds?

The image below illustrates typically where I would have used nurbs and why. I prefer polys myself.

Nice progress on the controller, its looking very good user added image

Maybe you could have the controller in the foreground for your final image as if you were actually controlling the model. That'd allow you to show the detail off a bit more user added image

looking really great man, yeah i use a mix of nurbs and polys use ploys to show nice hard surfaces and nurbs seem to render better for smoother objects.

Thanks guys,

The way things are turning out the Radio Control is going to have more hours invested in it than the Glider, but the glider was always intended as the main model. Then we have the issue of size difference between the two.

The screws I made for the controller aren't even going to be visible user added image

Thanks for the suggestion. I will need to do something like that.

I will post a picture a little later on that illustrates the difference in size.

Cheers

great work on the controller bms, its looking really good user added image

are you playing with it a bit more and then going back to the plane or are you going to add all the textures and get the shaders done first?

magicsy,

I learnt almost all of the the Texturing side of things through Kurt's Spitfire Tutorial which I purchased earlier this year. I actually don't mind texturing. I still need to learn heaps about shaders etc.

t1ck135,
Yes you're right I still have a little more to modelled on the controller, but hopefully I will have it done soon and then back to the Glider. My aim is to have all the modelling completed before the end of the month and that should give me a couple of weeks to focus on the lighting and compositing.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Cheers
Paul
