so, here's the dice. Was a pain in the butt to model all the holes. Couldn't use a bump map since the holes goes into the dice and shows through the glass. Not the greatest render, though. The material are too dark too, so have to fiddle with it some.
thanks magisy
mtmckinley, I can Ctrl-D one to you
Grev_Mivlos, I think it's to much hassle with MR, Maxwell gives better results in less human time (tweaking) but more computer-time (render)
I changed the IOR on the dice and now it looks much better and a lot more how my real dice looks. Also added some glitter to the foam, looks a little better, but not good enough.
i hate to be a pain again though... most 'casino' style dice don't have rounded edges... they're as close to perfectly square as you can get. raises the odds of 'lucking out' and such.
I changed the foam material and rendered it with my new computer and apparently Maxwell 1.5 doesn't like instanced geometry that much.... look pretty cool though so I decided to post the pic.
And for those who says Maxwell is too slow to be of any use, this render took 6 minutes.
Out of interest, you modeled the holes for the dice, obviously a bump map is out of the question but why didnt you use a displacement instead? or are there issues with those rendering in Maxwell?
