I love the texture on the monster, but I don't think that his exoskeleton matches it very well. It's a bit too clean and spotless, as if he uses too much Crest toothpaste user added image
Maybe all you need to do is add some cracks or scratches and make them a bit more dull, like the elephant's below user added image
Your models are looking awesome so far, though. Keep up the great work!
I went to Yahoo and typed "Elephant tusk" to get this picture.

good points.. :)

Many thanks for the comments user added image

Good point.. ya it does look a bit clean.. I think I'll make them a bit more yellowish brown and add the ivory brown aging cracks like in the tusk... to make them look more "beat up""

Here are the shapes Im working on right now.. I just did two of them.. both brows on one blendshape instead of doing two

not sure if it looks like fear or not

I should be able to go back and add a 2nd tier of blendshapes to tweak out her expression.. I'm not sure if thats fear.. or what that is.. lol.. revulsion/loathing etc..I will prolly add some blendshapes to make her eyes look like they are opened wider.

Any comments are always welcome.

Peace out,

reup

i trashed those blendshapes and redid them. They also caused some probs for my hair system so i just blendshaped the face and not the whole head.. here is my next attempt, hehe.

How do you get the separate detailing on your monster, like the bone, is it a separate entity? or did you extrude...ect

Looks awesome

sorry for the questions but I need to know,
could you maybe post a wireframe of your earlier model?

It looks very good, I like the texturing. How are you rendering your files, with Mental Ray, or regular Maya Software renderer?

How did you get that type of light reflection on the mandibles; what kind of shader did you use, is it a regular BLINN/Phong/etc or something special...

I box model the basic shape.. and extrude model.. I also use nurbs that i convert to polys.. and attach.. for things like eyelids arms.. any attachment.

I use UV snapshots and edit them in photoshop.. also once you have the uv's layed out you can use the procedural textures and interchange them with psd textures.

Looks awesome

I am rendering with the maya software renderer still.. because its what I know best.. I will tweak it out with the Mental Ray renderer at the end if I can.. but I don't know much about the set up for it.. so going to do that last after I get it looking good in Maya Software Renderer.

How did you get that type of light reflection on the mandibles; what kind of shader did you use, is it a regular BLINN/Phong/etc or something special...

On the mandibles I used a Phong E shader with color, transparency, ambient, incandescence, all at 0 value. and roughness at about .850 and highlights about .15. Reflectivity is maxed and reflective color is black. Specular highlights are pure white.

mf>>
Thanks for all the comments.. user added image I just rigged the monster I'll post some images of it soon, as well as a wireframe.
