Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Whoa.. i gotta learn more about textures because i have no idea how to link things like that. I also have that chrome shader and it works wonderful... but you have done some very nice things with it! One last thing thoguh, where did you learn about textures like this? From a book/ website or just over time? Anyways, great job.. better start reading the texturing section of my maya books user added image.

Hmmm thats a good question. I guess I just learned over time, mostly from the internet resources out there. But I'm sure theres a quicker way to do it! Also, just alot of experimenting and having fun with it. From the looks of your skull texture, I'd say your doing just fine!

*Edit* Forgot to add. Reverse engineering shaders you download is one of the best ways to learn about them.

If you have any specific questions about the network ask away, I'll try and answer best I can.

Hi there Blinn

great Work, I love it : DroooooooooL :

for the colors scheme, why don't you use a brown for the back and a lighter brown for the trunk, also I think it'd look great if you added some webbed wings under his arms, little tiny wings, remember the dinsoaur that could spread it's head sides in Jurassic Park-Part 1- kinda look like that, would give it a scarier look.

Just my 0.02 $ user added image

keep up the awesome work

I'm not quite sure what you mean by trunk, but here is a brown version.

It's just a photoshop manip, but you get the idea.

By webbing, you mean like a piece of skin that connects his arm and torso further down?

Great work, I'd go more brownish, like the color of old leather, and the trunk is the lighter area of the chest and the stomach

and yes by webbed that's what I meant, like the wings of a bat, same texture, and same semi-transaprency, and when he evolves, they could grow to major threatening wings, fully functional user added image then his body would gain full strength and muscle definition

sorry got carried away over there and stepped on our design/story :o

Great work man user added image user added image

thanks guys

el-ignoramus - I really like this idea, but the only thing im worrying about it how its gonna affect the rigging. The shoulder deformations would probably look really weird, as I'm not very good at rigging and skinning yet.

Wiz - thanks, i really appreciate it! user added image

very nice metal shader user added image
personally id like a little less bumpdepth but its looking very good as it is

i guess i could try this when i get home but..
what happens if you enable raytraceing and use a mapped reflected color?
does the raytraced reflections override the reflection map or what?

al - not quite sure about this, give it a shot id say

wiz - yeah, well the guns will be gone. So he'll just be decked out in armor. So my idea is that he will be defending his little aquarium castle in the final render.
