This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.
hmm the detail is proving hard so I decided to try a quick and dirty wood texture for the hull. Using paint daub in photoshop can give some cool effects on generic wood
yeah the wood texture is looking good and should look cool on your robot as well - actually I was suggesting that the anchor could be used as a weapon... probably a dumb idea though!
trying to juggle all the bits at the minute but just got some time on the train to get some basic textures on. Need to get the lighting set up properly too.
Too much to do in too little time
well I didnt get what I wanted finished so have put things up at the current stage (minus textures and extra model bits etc).
Learned a lot about trying to deal with multiple things at once and figured out some more on the trax editor so that was cool. Also found that I need to learn a lot more about hard shaped objects and how to model effectively in them.
You should have posted a pic of the bot with the wood texture you experimented with . Over all, the model looks really intresting. I suggest finnishing up on it on a later date. I am still working on my projector model from the Nov/Dec challenge.
Anyway, this competition looked a bit too difficult for alot of people ( hence the lack of participation and progress ).
definately THX1138, anything that isn't finished will be at some point
I wasn't happy with the level of detail on the wood texture (it needed a lot more layers with varying wear and tear marks and a fully finished bump map before I was going to be remotely happy with it).
Thanks arran its not finished but I just thought it'd be good to put something up to show how much further on (and better) dilberts's is - good luck dilberts!
Looking forward to seeing your vaccum guy completed arran
good stuff mate the robot looked very promising ill be checking to see if u finally get it finished!!

magicsy - cheers man, I would like to finish it off as I like the heavy feel to it and it'd be nice to see it properly textured. I'm glad you got yours in btw - well done
thanks joe - I'm glad you think it looks like a transformer, that means its a job (nearly) well done
pbman - yeah it was my third playblast and I didn't realise it creates it at 25/30 frames per second and you can't control the speed. The hands are the raised bit at the back of the ship and its hard to see what they are doing from that angle. I've got a better rendered iff sequence but haven't done any video editing before so couldn't get that up as a completed video.
Hey the new challenge sounds cool - think I might improve the modelling and rigging on this baby and use it. 2 months to learn better rigging and some basic animation sounds better than spending a few weeks modelling and then rushing the final animations.
