This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.

Stone fragments for scattering... (and noise modifier?!)

Hello,

I'm trying to create a dusty/rocky landscape, very similar to the one in the Blur Short film, Rockfish (www.Blur.com). I'm trying to find out what the easiest way to create ground that is not completely flat dirt, so I'd like to add hundreds of stones of various sizes/shapes etc onto the terrain without have to put them there indiviually. Is there a "scatter along surface" tool I could use to do that?

Also, while I'm writing this, I'd also like to know if there is a "noise modifier" like Studio MAX has, so that I can fractally (and not fractally) distort geometry?

Thanks for the help,
Kind Regards,
Bryan Litson

create an emitter or voume emitter or whateve you want, plonk a gravity field down and make the particles hit the floor. Save that as the particles innitial state so that they are on the floor from the beginning. Model a few rocks or whateer you want on the floor, and use the instancer to randomly place your rocks onto the floor of the scene.
