Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 1
This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

different renderers

So far I've been using the Maya's hardware renderer because that's the default one I think. But what are the pros and cons of the other renderers? Should I stick to one, or should I use different ones to render different things? I am extremely confused right now.

maya's hardware renderer is an open GL based renderer (limited to 8 lights basic texturing etc etc), it's only really used for hardware rendered particles. the software renderer is the one you want it will open up all of maya's features to you there's always mental ray as well but I'd start with the software renderer.
