This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.
Hello to all. I realy liked the challenge idea so I've
decided to register on the forums and take a part.
I've got my self "Classic Cathedral"
(that's the second one I got, the first one was "color-blind color" X_x)
So I guess I'm gonna create a cathedral. But to make
it a bit harder I'm not gonna do a specific one.
I'll be using picture references of existing cathedrals for
some architecture elements and create one of my own.
I've not yet decided what it's gonna be, exterior or interior,
both have tons of details to work on and should
not be easy to do.
PS Wish me luck after all I have a month less than you all. =)))
After a bit thinking and reference viewing I've decided to
work on exterior, couse it has a lot more intresting shapes
than interior.
So here goes the start. Bunch of curves fileted and extruded
to create the arc, the rest is simple lofts.
That's the wire frame shot.
Didn't like the first arc so I started from scratch and
now I'm working on a new arc a lot more detailed one.
For now I'm focusing on modeling so you won't see any
renders, I'll post the wireframe screenshots and after I'll get close to finishing the model I'll start palying with
lights.
Oh and BTW I got a realy weird problem.
I love keeping my outliner clean so I group stuff a lot
and have names and all. But after I started instancing
the columns all of my groups bacame messed up.
I've got a bunch (about 200-300) transform nodes.
Well I know that those are the instances but how come
they are created out of the groups in wich the orginal
geometry is? And all of my gemetry somehow conected so if delete or duplicate one column element same happens on all the others. How could it be? After all they should be sharing only the same shape node.
Well the problem I told about above killed the scene lol
I figured out that remodeling it will be a lot faster than
fixing it. Now I'm a lot more cerefull with groups and instances.
So here goes scene number 3 =)
Again just wireframes. I guess it's a bit over detailed
in some parts but it should add more
depth after lights are added (at least I hope so)
And the doors look really flat now but again
it should be fixed after lights are added.
I don't realy like the circle window so I guess I'll replace
it later with a crucifiction (it won't be historicaly correct but I hope you will forgive me)
I do have some tesselation problems here and
there but overall it's looks quite good. Oh and those
small details are absolutly doing the trick and I'm thinking
of adding more of them.
Just could not hold my self =) So I've added some lights
It's my own cathedral. I'm using elements of other
cathedrals (tyn, charter etc.) and building a new one =)
It's a lot more fun to design something of your own then
just copy an existing one.
