Realistic river

Hy. First of all i'm new and want to say hy...
With what to (and how to) make a (realistic) river that flow and then flows into lake?
I don't wont to use external programs and plug-ins for maya, just Maya Unlimited.
Is it better to do it with "fluid container with emiter", or with "particles and curve flow" or something else or combination...
What about texture...
Is there some tutorial for this...

Give me some opinion...

Thanks :p

Those wonderfull suggestions aside you may be able to do it using particles. There is a tutorial on Mike's site about water and that could be done the same way. Sorry but i forgot the link.
