making a couch just now for my scene and thought I'd stick it up here for crits and comments.
Got it roughly blocked out and just started the cushions.
Comments would be appreciated on how to get the cushions looking looking nice and creased/rumpled and lived in, don't want it to look like a couch in a showroom. Also, how to add irregularities on the arms and bottom part (creases, folds etc).
Probably just add more edge loops and manipulate them, might try and create a normal map in zbrush...
Yeah, most straightforward way is to just move those vertices around to shape folds and bumps, a hellofa work though. A better way to do it would be to use zbrush and make a displacement map.
i think the seat cushions should be a bit thicker, but it looks like a good start. I might have a play with the sculpt polygon tool to help add some irregularities.
DJblazer, I'm not very confident with zbrush. I've given it a go without too much luck, so I'm trying just by moving vertices (though I need to get into zbrush soon).
Arran, yeah I've thickened up that cushion some. Going to just try and start texturing it soon, don't want to spend too much time on it.
just an update. Started to texture it, still got a way to go.
Shwayster, I think that your cushions look small compared to the rest - why don't you start your own thread and get some comments there? That way it'll be a thread just focussed on your work.
yeah - it's looking very nice. should the texture continue all the way to the bottom though? also, i think that you might want to have a play with penumbra angle and cone angle on your lights just so it's not so sharp at the edges.
