Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

blocky render

Could anyone advise me how to render without this blockiness?
I've tried 'average normals' (I'm using maya 2009 which doesn't seem to have the smooth normals command which 2008 apparently had)
Any advice appreciated

I haven't used maya 2009 yet, but I would presume that there will still be an option to 'conform normals' and 'smooth normals' under the polygon menu set somewhere.

Thanks - There is 'soften edges' under the normals list - this indeed got rid of the jagged edges, and conform normals though it doesn't seem to do anything.

soften edges softens the normals, so that the normal isn't always perpendicular to the face at any point on the face

at a guess i think conform normals gets the normals to face the same direction, i haven't got Maya open to prove me right about that

that's a "Ch" pronounced as a "K"
