Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

Modelling a charcter ?

Hi!
I bought the book Maya Character Animation by Jae-jin Choi and have a small problem: I try to follow the tutorial, but Step 2 of the Subdivision Surface Character Modelling(Page 137 in the book) doesn't work. I get the following error message, when I try to convert Poly-->Sub-D:
// Error: polyToSubdiv1 (Poly To Subdiv Node): One or more vertices is nonmanifold.
// Nonmanifold geometry cannot be converted to a subdivision surface.
// To clean up nonmanifold vertices, use Polygons->Cleanup with the nonmanifold option. //

When I clean it up, the result that I get after the converting doesn't look as it should.

What can I have done wrong ??? I hope that someone can help meuser added image.

can you post an image? What I normally do is select non-geometry only. It never changes the way the object looks.

I really like the book and can't stop working with it- I hope that it will help me to win this month's challengeuser added image.
I know what I have done wrong: The keep faces together option was turned off during modeling...

how is the book for semi=beginners? I wouldn't consider myself too much a noob, but I do prefer very detailed instructions out of tutorials and what not...

I think the book is really good for semi=beginners and also advanced users. For a real noob I think it is hard to get through the book because there is't every mouse-click explained.
