Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Nov/Dec - Creature - Modern (2003) - Chipper - Noob

Id like to have a go at this although new to 3d modelling and have only tried polygon modelling thus far.
Id like to model Gollum as a street tramp in New York , crawling about an alley searching trash bins for scraps looking for his 'Precious' breakfast.
I can picture it in my mind and just hope i can build something like the vision....ill get on it anywayz...um ..wish me luck ill need it.

That is a good start!

We all have to start somewhere, and gollum is a tough subject to modell. Just don't be afraid of making mistakes and experimenting.

If you want some more references, try this-

Keep it up, you're doing fine user added image

Thx for the link Chris, appreciated.
I realise this is probably not an orthodox way to go but its one i feel comfortable with at this early stage and i find it quite fun so ill just plod on and hopefully actually finish it before time.
Anyways i mirrored it over to see how things were looking for this next screenie, bit of nose detail needed definately, (lol, if that aint all!)...im dreading the ears but he will have a woolly hat for the street tramp look so that may cover the more intricate part of the ear (dang good 'get out' clause that one).
And also ill have a go at the mouth next i think...anywayz heres the latest pic.

Roughed out some ears and booked him in for a fitting of his wooly hat (stretched excessively to get round the ears).
Next thing i guess is a ragged coat with collar turned up.
May lower the forehead slightly to match the pic a lil better...not really getting a good likeness yet but hopefully the texturing will get it a lil closer later.
Sketching out plans for the alley area he will be in... oh and i wanted to ask if its oki with a single render in one position at the end? ...rather than from a few different angles as i have built him with one shot in mind...this will save a ton of work with surroundings an stuff.
Anyways heres a pic.

Nicely done! I'm possibly considering bumping you to Normal category. I'll wait and see, though. user added image

That would put me in the same catagory as ice Queen and Chris H and they are definately waaay , waaaay outta my class ...or they should be taken out of normal and put in "genius" class.
Besides i have only textured game models for UT2k3 in the last few months and texturing this will probably end up a disaster but ill keep on til the end... woohooo.

They are the only thing I see letting the model down at the mo.

Btw, "genius" class, I don't think so.
ps. how much do I owe you for saying that? user added image
