Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

Edge Merging?

Okay, new to maya, and in the process of making something i came to a part where 2 edges overlapped(i thought the 2 faces had an ajoined edge, but 2 seperate edges.

So basically imagine 2 boxes projecting out from something. but they arent connected... it just... i dont know how to get it. ill post screens if you dont understand.

could you not snap the vertices together and then merge vertices? you will need to post a pic so we can see exactly what you mean.

Yes as Pure_Morning said select the verts on the edges you want merged and select merge vertices. It sould merge them and you will get a single edge.

I snapped the vertex's, merged points(i dont know if i did the merging properly though) and it continued to be.. uncooperative.

I dont have a screen as that problem i deleted and redid it all manually. But i have come across it. next time i do ill get a screen..

To merge vertices you just lasso box around the vertex's, selecting all in that spot and goto edit polygons>merge vertices correct?

correct then you can adjust the tolerance thu the slider. start low like .001 then go up and watch them snap together

figured out... the merge tool was set to 0.0000 so i dont think it was actually doing anything. I set it to .001 and that seems to have solved many of my problems, i also have the show poly thing in the corner, which is very handy i must say.

Maybe also look at Merge Edge tool, and in your case hit F10 to go to edge selection mode.. drag select over the edges to select them both and select Edit polys > Merge multiple edges..

You also might have to tweak the tolerance here user added image
