Texturing Help Please

Ok, I'm trying to make a CRT monitor. So I make a rectangular box using polygons with the same height and length dimensions. Then I extrude the back face. This is where my problem begins. I will select object, right click, apply new texture, checkered texture. When I render it, the checkers show up almost everywhere, except the side of the extruded and scaled part, but it will show it on the extruded face. Am I doing something wrong?

You need to redo the UV layouts after the extrude. I usually do all the modelling first and then do the UV mapping just before texturing.
