Yeah, brinkoo7, I've been lofting and using the single birail to get results. I guess he used that circular fillet to get the really thin round edges of the cars panels. I tried re-building everything and intersecting all my curves - no go with the 3x birail.

slow going

i've been working - very slowly - on the model and so far border, birail, loft and planar have been what i've used to get resulting patches. finally figured out that when you rebuild with the smallest possible number of patches it's easier to get a smooth shape by tweaking the vertices - also found out why you turn the hulls on! So much easier to see why your surface is all lumpy. user added image
but i can't complain - it's beginning to make sense - slowly

Wow this is hard. The suburu tutorial mentioned earlier is really good. I'm piping trance into my ears and wrestling with these patches. I think the mclaren is a really beatiful car but so curvy user added image

Anyway critics welcome now that there's more of something to critic.

btw the views I got for viewprints don't match 100 percent.

i've been working on the medievel challenge and have just got back to this to get something purely mechanical going in my head. I decided to trim the wheel wells. That made integrating the front wheel well with the hood a lot smoother and also the transition from the window/roof panel to the side panel. birail 2 worked nicely for the longer roof panel and i'm going tohave to decide how i'm going to go about making the details. i think i'm going to go right back to that suburu tutorial cause it is the best source i've found. c & c very much welcome!

I have been playing with that tutorial for a while on and off and have the same problems as others posted earlier when trying to do cicular fillets and fillet blends, particularly around the front round lights and indicator etc.

Any help there would be appreciated.

Image planes - ever tried putting your line drawing on to a poly plane (or maybe nurbs plane) as a texture and then moving it, scaling it etc to get it to line up exactly?

Might be of some use to you.

hey there baldgeek - i haven't been able to get circular filet and fillet blends to work either but as i work on the details i will keep posting them here.

Scaling the planes to get them to line up is a good idea! why didn't i think of that? will do that for next time user added image

Is it worth starting a new thread solely for everyone to post problems/solutions to when doing the WRX tutorial?

There seems to be at least 6 people that could do with some help somewhere along the way.

I myself are going to start the whole thing again (version 4).

I'm out for a few days with work so I'll catch up with peoples thoughts later.......

By the way - nice picture of the McLaren so far. Keep it up.

mumbojumbo_13 - go to the following link and download the blueprints. Go into photoshop or another image editor where you can slice the image into each view - front/side/top/back. Make 4 planes which are proportional to the views. Make 4 lambert shaders and for the color choose file and then go to the appropriate blueprint view and it should show up on the plane.

if you have a specific problem then i can try to help but since i didn't do the tutorial i don't have the files.
