Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Nice stuff there, although maybe the colors ar pretty dark. Probably because of te background. Anyway, can't wait to see more of the creature! KUTGW!

When I was looking at it I thought it was a little dark… but then I kept looking at it and I decided it was fine. After all it's supposed to be a scary creature, and even as much as a prep as I am I don't think it would look good brighter. lol user added image

What does it look like with the flat shader on?

Not too sure if theres bleed from the material thats darkening the overall look.

Personally I prefer the fast shader to texture with, matcaps have a tendancy to throw off the look, they also dont obay lighting etc.

Hmm… idk, I'll have to try it. I might be really busy today and tomorrow, so I might not be able to check it out till Monday. Unless, I end up not being busy today.

Haha, I love matcaps though. Takes a while to pick one that fits, but then I don't have to screw around with lighting.

Matcaps are great for sculpting but lack when it comes to texturing (IMO).

Not too sure what you mean about messing with the lighting, I never touch it on any of the standard shaders, though I do know what you mean with the matcaps having the lighting baked in, but there in lies the problem.

When you go to the flat shader you'll see any problems straight away (holes, dark spots, light spots etc).

A nice mothod to use is to bounce between Z and PS with your texture map as it can be difficult to get fine control over the colour distrubution over the mode, adding layers (in a black and white image on a new texture) to define dark/light areas, this can then be combined with the colour texture map in PS and then borught back into Z for tweeking.

You mean fast shader or flat shader Steve?

No, it's one that DT had in another one of their training things. All rhinos look the same though, don't they? lol

Anyway, I'm rendering out the images and turntables today… I'm gonna try to get my website updated tomorrow, but I have a feeling something is gonna come up and I won't get it updated till tomorrow.

OK, I've finished it… You can see the rest of the pics as well as a turntable on my site. Oh, and I made a turntable for the Rhino too.
