Well, I mentioned that it still needs work. The ear ref I'm using is this:

I think I'll merge some vertices to make it flow like that. I'll also need to move some stuff around.
Here are the wires in both normal and smoothed.

But I have no idea how to do the second bending... Most of the components of the ear I don't understand. O.o

Sighh, I might need to re-do the ear, I seem to have lost some vertices into the facets -.-
Will end up with a lot of tris to get rid of...

So, using a backup, what more should I add now?

I think this is a better ref.

This is a tough one. I've tried 3 times now to make the ear, but every time I end up with a tri or ngon when I try to make an antihelix.
The tragus and antitragus are also giving me problems.
Can't figure the flow and this would be the only solution I'd have. Which again give me no flow.
Where it's blue I meant I'd extend that portion's vertex towards the center of the ear.
Second pic: current state.

You realy should be using references behind the mesh, it does make life easyer (just turn the transparencey down on your mesh to see through). I have done a number of ears not modelled one the same, I would put the edges in to make the shape then do a clean up..........dave

Right now I still don't know where to begin adding edges. The tragus is still annoying, but that thing in front of it seems to have been solved.

If I go on this route by making the shapes, I eventually end up with parts that I may not know how to continue, as seen in picture 2.

Am I doing it right?
Still got some tris and ngons there and some lines that are going nowhere.

Like I said before I do not think I have made 1 ear the same, you have the shape now start extuding and see were that gets you.............dave

I may have the shape but not the flow. I still need to extend a few edges so that I have quads at least on the outside of the ear.

Well, now it looks kind of like an ear... Only that it needs rescaling on the bottom side and... scaling in general, as it is flipping huge O.O

as dave said....you will never replicate an ear LOL. I would try as dave said to make the ear first...forget the head...then attach it and fix the geo later.

Why would I have to make a detached one anyway since it would make no difference whether I have it here or detached.
I don't really want to replicate a whole ear, I just want it to look close enough to an ear. I am not trying to make a too realistic human char anyway since I want it to be cartoonish. But since I'm working on the ear, might as well add the basic details to it.

Still got some cleanup to do and to arrange a few edges.

EDIT: Arranged the edges better, also all quads now.

Because whenever I have done a tut they say it is easier to make the ear seperate and attach to the head adjusting the geo...just repeating what 4 tuts I have seen tell you to do. Up to you in the end...it looks ok....

Now making the hole will be a bit harder, need to extrude and position the hole correctly, in order to form that bend in front of the ear hole.
